Seid gespannt.

Create a stunning epoxy wood combination

Joining wood and epoxy – A laborious but rewarding process.

When I want to create a Cajon project using an epoxy wood joint, I know I have to prepare for an elaborate process. But the results are worth it – I can create sturdy, long-lasting projects by joining natural wood with high-quality epoxy. The design possibilities are endless.

My first step in joining wood and epoxy is to prepare the wood. I clean it of all contaminants such as dust and oil to allow for a perfect bond.

To mix the epoxy, I make sure that the ratio of resin and hardener is exactly right to achieve optimal hardness and durability. Epoxy can be a real diva, it doesn’t forgive you for mistakes. The result would be that the resin either gets too hot and boils up, or it doesn’t cure at all or doesn’t get the strength it needs,

I now carefully pour the epoxy into the prepared channels in the wood, making sure that it is evenly distributed. After pouring, I have to let the Cajon rest as long as the epoxy needs to cure. This can take several days.

Now I finish by sanding the surface of the Cajon smooth to remove any imperfections, this is by far the dirtiest job.

After sanding, I prepare the board for gluing together to form the body. For this, the board is ripped open and the narrow sides mitered.  Now I can glue the single boards together with epoxy resin.

The joining of wood and epoxy resin to make a Cajon takes time and patience, but the final result always delights me. The sound of such an epoxy Cajon is also something very special. I am already looking forward to the next exciting Cajon project with epoxy, I still have a few ideas. Be curious.
