The first sealing with epoxy

After what felt like endless sanding, today I primed the new body of the Solid River Hex Cajon with epoxy. I do this so that I fill all micro holes and possibly small cracks in the wood. I also want a closed pore pattern. The Cajon surface will be very smooth and uniform afterwards. The epoxy resin really fires up the grain of the oak, plus the resin in the milling channels become clear and bright again. The downside: it’s a bit of a pain to sand again. Making a Cajon like this is really hard work. However, I am also rewarded with a unique instrument that will hopefully find its way to an enthusiastic musician. Every effort is worth it!

Most of the time not all pores are filled during the first sealing, then this process has to be repeated. So sand everything again, remove dust, degrease and seal again with resin. Quite a lot of work for a Cajon, isn’t it?
